The Mac can't see my iPhone
- Make sure the Mac and the iPhone are on the same Wi-Fi. A "guest" network often keeps devices apart.
- Make sure Hey!ko has local network access: Settings › Hey!ko › Local Network. Without it, your Mac can't see the iPhone.
- Keep Hey!ko open on screen while you pick the iPhone on the Mac: that's the only time it makes itself visible.
- On the Mac, Hey!ko Link also needs the local network: System Settings › Privacy & Security › Local Network.
"Code refused"
A digit was mistyped, or you picked another device in the Mac's list. The iPhone immediately shows a new code: type that one. A code works only once — that's what stops another device from guessing it.
"This code has already been tried"
On the iPhone, tap "New code", then type the new code on the Mac. Also check that you picked the right iPhone: another device may have the same name.
Do I have to do this every time?
The code links the Mac and the iPhone for one listening session. If the iPhone stops playback ("Disconnect"), the Mac will ask you for the new code shown on the iPhone.
Where do I download Hey!ko Link?
On the Hey!ko Link download page. It's free, for macOS 14.4 or later. In Hey!ko on the iPhone, the "Send the link to my Mac" button sends you this address by AirDrop, Messages or Mail.
Sound
Sending has started, but nothing comes out of the iPhone
- Hey!ko Link needs permission to record the Mac's sound: System Settings › Privacy & Security › Screen & System Audio Recording, then turn on Hey!ko Link. Right after a Hey!ko Link update, macOS may ask for this permission again: answer "Allow".
- If the panel says "This Mac isn't delivering any sound" while permission is granted, stop and restart sending; if it keeps happening, restart the Mac.
- Check the iPhone's volume, and that it isn't sending sound to headphones that are turned off ("Audio output" button).
"This Mac's output runs at … Hz"
Hey!ko sends sound at 48,000 Hz. Open Audio MIDI Setup (in Applications › Utilities), select your Mac's output and set it to 48,000 Hz. Otherwise the sound would play on the iPhone at the wrong speed.
The sound lags behind a video
Wi-Fi adds about two tenths of a second. Turn on video mode on the iPhone's listening screen: the screen stays on (black, using almost no power) and the delay is shorter than with the iPhone locked.
I want to hear the sound on the iPhone only
In Hey!ko Link's panel, turn on "Only hear the iPhone": the Mac goes quiet while sending, and speaks again as soon as you stop.
The sound stops during a phone call
That's how iOS works: a call takes over the sound. The Mac shows "The iPhone isn't responding"; when the call ends, the sound resumes on its own.
Purchase
How much does it cost?
Hey!ko gives you 10 minutes of sound, once per iPhone: the counter only runs while sound is playing, and the app shows the time left on the code screen, before you listen. After that, "Hey!ko Unlimited" is a one-time purchase: €6.99 in France (the price may vary by country). No subscription, and the purchase works with Family Sharing. Hey!ko Link, on the Mac, is free.
I changed iPhones or reinstalled Hey!ko: how do I get my purchase back?
Tap "Restore purchase", on the end-of-trial card or in the purchase sheet, with the same Apple Account you bought it with. Nothing to pay again. If a family member made the purchase, Family Sharing gives it to you too.
Good to know
Do I need an account, or the Internet?
No account. To listen, your Wi-Fi is enough: the sound never goes over the Internet. Only the optional purchase goes through Apple's App Store, which needs the Internet to get the price, buy or restore your purchase.
Several iPhones at once?
Not yet: the sound goes to one iPhone at a time. To switch, stop sending and pick the other iPhone.
What about Windows, Linux or Android?
Not for now: Hey!ko Link is for Mac. Other computers will come later.
Which languages?
English and French. Hey!ko follows your iPhone's language, and Hey!ko Link your Mac's.
